Well i have been a father for about 3 months now. And it has hit me like a storm!! A wonderful storm but a storm none the less.
I have learned a lot in these last three months and many of them i reckon can relate equally well to leadership.

I have learned a lot in these last three months and many of them i reckon can relate equally well to leadership.
- Sometimes you just need to love your people (family) no matter how much they squark and squeal and even if they are tired and grumpy and you are not their favourite person...love them anyway...love them more.
- Sometimes there will be a 'code brown'...yes it may not hit the fan but it sure can need a clean up and phew what a smell....learning to love the mess and love the person creating the mess has humbled me a lot...I don't care now how smelly it is the mess has been created and it needs to be cleaned up.
- There will be crisis management situations-when a late night hospital visit has your heart pounding and your brain running through with all sorts of awful scenarios...follow the posters-Keep Calm and if that fails rely on your friends/family for support thats what they are there for.
- There are moments of wonder and joy in your days-treasure them, record them...celebrate them and the people that are in them...it won't happen everyday but when it does love it.
- Support your partner-teamwork is essential-no one person can do it all...how do single parents do it??? we need each other for support/encouragement and backup!!
- Have a backup-if all else fails put on 'Pingu the penguin'-find what makes them happy work towards achieving that.
- Assess your priorities-does it really matter anymore if you are the earliest to work? last to leave? what message does that send your team...your family?
- Look after yourself-you are no good in your role if you can't cope physically, mentally or spiritually with what is happening.
- Rest when you can and eat when you can-you never know what is going to happen to prevent you from achieving this at normal times.
