Although some might say that 'there is nothing new under the sun' i reckon that as a leader you are duty bound to learn…in fact you must learn it is an imperative. You are the Lead Learner the one who role models to their staff a willingness and enjoyment out of leaving the 'treadmill' for a while to get into some knowledge.
I had the opportunity to hear Andy Hind speak at a Leadership workshop held in Shanghai. He was great he held all of our attention whilst telling us the lessons that he has learned as a leader. He was honest expressing where he had made mistakes and he encouraged us all to live out our leadership values. That requires us to work out what our leadership values are and then apply them on a day to day basis.
Most of us when we have a PD course to go on go a little begrudgingly…maybe thinking of all the work that we are not doing whilst being at the course. Well i can honestly say that the time i spent at this course was time very well spent.
Yes i also visited the 'huge' metropolis of Shanghai…i negotiated through the crowds…sometimes using my elbows. I even rode the metro and got unclose and personal with the locals (not a lot of personal space in the public transport in Shanghai).
Being the Leader of a team i need to learn more i can't be accepting that i know it all i have to be willing to ask even of my team members what…is going on…what is happening…learning about your own team is vital too. We must sprinkle our day liberally with emotional intelligence.

I made sure that i made notes at the course as somewhat ironically seeing as our meeting on monday is about PD and appraisal this will help me to explain with an example…how to use the new software program upon which our learning to be lead learners will be placed.
By the way there is a cool…although very busy Apple store in Shanghai and did you know that that building with the bulb like sections is actually pink colour…wi
